I am not like David Warner to count personal milestones: Nathan Lyon

Team Australia came up with a thumping all round show to level the Test series against Bangladesh. They were thoroughly beaten and bruised in Dhaka but came back with a gutsy show at Chittagong. Two of their main architects of the win were David Warner and Nathan Lyon. Lyon bagged two five-wicket hauls in the game and Warner was the centurion in the first innings. His century helped Australia take a key first innings lead in the game.

Both Lyon and Warner had performed well in the first game as well. They were rightly adjudged as the Player of the Series at the post match presentation. Nathan Lyon also took away the Player of the match honors with him. During the post match presentation, both players made some interesting remarks about their game. Warner noted that he took a leaf out of the book of his former opening partner Chris Rogers.

“It was taken this approach from my past team mate Chris Rogers’ book. It took me around 15 Tests to work around my pattern on conditions like these. It has come off and it is nice to play well for the team. I had to overcome battles in my mind on how to approach the game. I hadn’t had much of success in conditions like these and we fought back hard from the first game. Keeping my patience and working hard paid off,” quoted David Warner.

Nathan Lyon soaks in success with grace

Meanwhile, Nathan Lyon remarked that the track suited the spinners and hence he extracted the most out of it. He further lauded the way Aussie batsmen batted in the game to set up the crucial lead. Lyon rightly pointed out that they have not tasted much success in the subcontinent and hence the win has done them a world of good. Commenting on the way he is quietly picking up so many five-fors, Lyon joked that he does not count his achievements like David Warner.

“It was a really good wicket to bowl on, especially spin. Credit goes to our batters for the way they batted and set it up for us. It was a really special performance by the bowling group. We all know that we haven’t had the best of success in the sub-continent; it was important for us to come here as a young group and stand up,” Nathan Lyon.

“Bangladesh are a classy side and it is a positive result for us. I only try and win games for Australia and pick wickets for the team. Bowling in partnerships is important and it was fun. I am not like David Warner to count personal successes,” Lyon added.
