Kane Williamson’s unbeaten century on the 2nd day has put New Zealand on the top against Pakistan in the Christchurch Test. Kyle Jamieson’s 5-wicket haul saw Pakistan getting restricted to 297 on the first day where Azhar Ali (93) and Mohammad Rizwan (61) scored fifties. The Kiwis lost their first three wickets for 71 runs before an unbeaten partnership of 215 runs between skipper Kane Williamson (112*) and Henry Nicholls (89*). Williamson raced from 50 to 100 in just 35 balls with as many as 8 fours.

Here are all the statistical highlights from the first two day’s play of the Christchurch Test match:

Williamson’s maiden ton at Hagley Oval:

6 – Kane Williamson now has scored at least one century in six different venues in Test cricket at home – Seddon Park (5), Basin Reserve (3), Eden Park (2), Bay Oval (1), University Oval (1) and Hagley Oval (1). Williamson is the 2nd player after Brendon McCullum (6 venues) to score Test centuries in as many as six different grounds in New Zealand.

13 – Williamson now has 13 centuries in Test cricket while playing at home; the most number of Test tons for any player on New Zealand soil. He went past Ross Taylor’s tally of 12 hundreds with the Monday’s knock.

56 – The unbeaten 112 by Williamson is his 56th score of 50 and more runs in Test cricket. These are now the most 50+ scores by any player for New Zealand in the longer format going past Stephen Fleming’s 55 fifty-plus scores.

Yet another ton for Kane against Pakistan:

4 – Kane Williamson now has scored four centuries in Test cricket against Pakistan; the most Test tons by any player against them for New Zealand. Williamson’s four tons are the 3rd most behind Javed Miandad (7) and Shoaib Mohammad (5) in the NZ-PAK Test matches.

3 – Williamson has scored a century in each of his last three matches in Test cricket against Pakistan. Sanath Jayasuriya (4), Brian Lara (4), Jacques Kallis (4), Kumar Sangakkara (3), Ian Bell (3) and David Warner (4*) are the other players with centuries in three or more consecutive Test matches against Pakistan.

Jamieson’s spree of 5-wicket hauls:

3 – Kyle Jamieson picked a 5-wicket haul in all the three series he has played in Test cricket so far: vs India, West Indies and Pakistan. Among New Zealand players, only Jamieson and Jack Cowie took 5-fers in the first three series in Test cricket. Cowie took four 5-wicket hauls in his Test career; each of them coming in the four series he played.

The record-breaking pair:

1 – Kane Williamson and Henry Nicholls became the first pair in Test cricket with multiple 200+ stands against Pakistan. They are also the first pair from New Zealand with multiple double ton partnerships against an opponent in Tests.

Williamson and Nicholls put on an unbeaten 215-run stand on Monday and had a partnership of 212 runs for the 5th wicket during their 2nd innings of the 2018 Abu Dhabi Test. Overall, the duo has shared as many as four century partnerships in Test cricket with three of them coming against Pakistan.

A line-up of left-handers:

6 – The inclusion of Zafar Gohar has extended the left-handed batsmen count in Pakistan’s playing XI to six as they carried five leftie batters from the previous match in the form of Shan Masood, Haris Sohail, Fawad Alam, Faheem Ashraf and Shaheen Shah Afridi.

This is the first time Pakistan fielded as many as six left-handers in the playing XI of a Test match. Pakistan had exactly five left-handers in seven Test matches; all between 2010 and 2020 including the first Test of this series at the Bay Oval.
