ODI Squad of Pakistan for Sri Lanka series announced
Hafeez included, Ali makes way for Imam.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the squad for the ODI leg of the Sri Lankan tour to the United Arab Emirates and Pakistan. The board more or less presented the same squad which featured in their successful ICC Champions Trophy campaign in June.
Veteran batsman Mohammad Hafeez retained his spot in the ODI squad. The only newcomer in the squad is the nephew of Pakistani legend and Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq, Imam-ul-Haq, who comes in place of injured Azhar Ali.
Wahab Riaz lost his spot in the squad while Junaid Khan retains his place in the One-day side. The last ODI game the men in green played was during the finals of the Champions Trophy, which they won by defeating arch-rivals India.
The win in the Champions Trophy final was the first occasion in eight years where the Pakistanis managed to overhaul the Indians in a major ICC event. After a long lay off, the country finally resumed competitive cricket as they hosted the World XI side in 3-match T20I series which they won by a margin of 2-1
The likes of Darren Sammy, Tamim Iqbal, Faf du Plessis, David Miller Hashim Amla, Paul Collingwood, Ben Cutting, George Bailey and many others agreed to tour the country in PCB’s bid to revive competitive cricket in the country.
The men in green have currently locked horns with the Sri Lankans in Test format. The hosts already lost the riveting first Test match of the series as they failed to chase a mediocre target of 138 in the fourth innings. The men in green had no answer to the spell from Rangana Herath. The Second Test match is scheduled to start from October 7.
