On Father’s Day, Virat Kohli remembers the most important lesson his father taught him
Virat often mentions things that his father taught him.
Virat Kohli at every important occasion makes reference to his late father Prem Kohli who taught him all the values he carries in life today. The captain of the Indian cricket team isn’t lucky enough to have him around at this juncture in his life where he has achieved almost everything one can dream of. However, Virat tries his best to live by his father’s footsteps and on the morals, he was taught.
He was only 18 and playing a first-class match for his home side Delhi in the Ranji Trophy against Karnataka that he got the news of his father’s demise. Virat was batting on 40 at stumps on that day and it was a crucial knock in the context of the game as the team needed it desperately to survive. He went home but returned back to his team to fulfil his duty.
Virat scored 90 in that innings and Delhi managed to avoid follow-on that looked imminent. He then went back to fulfil his duties as a son and his father’s last rights were carries out. It is an important lesson and Kohli has at times mentioned that his father would’ve wanted him to continue playing and that’s why he did what he did.
On this Father’s day, he posted a tweet which read- “This father’s day do something memorable and make it special with your father.” It had an image of Virat with his father and there was a message written on the image. “From the very beginning, he taught me how to work hard, to have ultimate belief in my own hard work and not look anywhere for favors. That lesson is the essence of my life now. He guided me in the right direction. Thank you Dad!
This father’s day take your father out to play. Relieve the good old days.”
