'One king supports another' - Twitter elated as Babar Azam sheds support for Virat Kohli
'This too shall pass. Stay strong,' Babar Azam said for Virat Kohli.
Former India skipper Virat Kohli has been going through a prolonged lean patch in his career and his batting performances have got everyone in the world of cricket talking about it. While his constant failures have earned criticism from several corners, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam shared a picture with Kohli on social media and supported him saying ‘This too shall pass. Stay strong.’
As Kohli made his return to the second ODI after missing out on the first game due to a groin injury, he could manage to score just 16 runs off the 25 balls that he faced. After getting a score of 1 and 11 in the two T20I matches, and failing to make it big in the one-off Test that happened earlier, Kohli has now gone past 77 international games without a century as the last time he reached the three-figure mark was in November 2019.
In the second ODI against England, Team India suffered a humiliating loss as the visitors won by 100 runs at Lord’s. With a six-wicket haul, Reece Topley shone for England as India were bowled out for 146 in a 247-run chase. While pursuing a delivery outside-off, Kohli nicked the ball as it landed directly into wicketkeeper Jos Buttler’s gloves.
On Thursday, the right-handed batter earned support from both his captain, Rohit Sharma, and Babar Azam, the skipper across the border, despite harsh criticism from some former Indian cricketers, of whom one was World Cup-winning captain and a legend of the game- Kapil Dev. Many cricket pundits have shed support for Kohli and believe that the stylish batter would be back in form really soon.
India and Pakistan will clash at the Asia Cup this year before meeting at the World Cup
Kohli and Babar last met on a cricket field when the former was the captain of the Men in Blue. The two teams clashed during their respective campaign openers at the T20 World Cup 2021 where Pakistan thrashed India by 10 wickets. Before meeting again at the global platform, the arch-rivals are scheduled to square off against each other in the upcoming Asia Cup.
Babar Azam will be back in action in the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka in Galle and Colombo. Meanwhile, Kohli has been rested for the white-ball tour of West Indies, which will get underway later this month.
Meanwhile, here’s how Twitter reacted to Babar Azam’s gesture:
