One more arrest in PSL match-fixing scandal
A British man has been arrested by the National Crime Agency (NCA) in the Sheffield area in connection to spot-fixing in cricket and was bailed post further inquiries. The NCA of the United Kingdom has already made a mark in relation to match-fixing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and has already arrested two men on February 14.
Pakistan opener Nasir Jamshed and Sharjeel Khan were in the news for being arrested on charges of match-fixing. Jamshed has played 2 Test matches and 48 ODI matches for Pakistan. The third man in question was Yousuf, who is a part of the betting circuit. They were arrested and later released on bail until April pending further queries.
Jamshed, along with Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif were suspended from the country’s high profile Twenty 20 league. Khan and Latif were part of the defending champion Islamabad United’s squad.
The PSL was in all sorts of trouble, courtesy match fixing scandals followed by the terrorist attack in Lahore, which killed at least 13 people. The final of the PSL is set to be hosted in Lahore but many foreign cricketers have shown their reservation regarding the same.
The security is promised to be at the level provided to a visiting head of state and fans are likely to reach the venue three hours in advance. Today, an explosion took place at the Defence Housing Authority, which is said to be one of the posh surroundings in Lahore.
Pakistan have been struggling to host a global event in their country after the infamous attack on the Sri Lankan international cricket team in Lahore in the year 2009. They lost their bid to host 2011 World Cup matches, which were later shifted to Mumbai and Delhi.
The PSL final will be played on 5th March, and the PCB is trying their best to conduct the event in the safest manner possible.
