The biggest names from the world of cricket, from Sachin Tendulkar to Sourav Ganguly have reacted to the death of Milkha Singh.

Sprint legend Milkha Singh passed away on 18th June 2021 at the age of 91. It has been reported that he died due to Covid-19 complications. Also known as the ‘Flying Sikh’, Milkha was the first Indian athlete to win the gold medal in the Commonwealth games.

Milkha represented India in the 1956,1960 as well as the 1964 Olympic Games as well. Apart from that, Singh has also won a whopping 4 gold medals in the 1958 and the 1962 Asian Games. While he won the gold medal in the 200 m and 400 m category in the 1958 Asian Games, he won the gold medal in the 400 m and 4x 400 m relay category in the 1962 Asian Games.

Milkha Singh has also received the Padma Shri award from the Indian Govt. for his contribution to athletics. Also, a film was made on Milkha Singh’s career, titled ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’.

Cricketing Fraternity reacts to Milkha Singh’s death

And, after the death of the legendary athlete, the cricketing fraternity has poured out its love for Milkha Singh. And, the biggest names from the world of cricket, from Sachin Tendulkar to Sourav Ganguly have reacted to the death of Milkha Singh. While Tendulkar tweeted that Milkha Singh’s demise has left a void in every Indians’ heart, Sourav Ganguly stated that it was Milkha Singh who made young Indians dream.

VVS Laxman opined that Milkha Singh’s legacy will live on for generations to come, while Virender Sehwag tweeted that Milkha Singh’s name will be synonymous with courage and willpower.

Bowling legend Anil Kumble labeled Singh as an icon, while former Indian skipper Mohammad Azharuddin tweeted that Singh was like a father figure to all the sportsmen in the country. Subramaniam Badrinath tweeted that the ‘Flying Sikh’ has inspired people to work hard and stay focused towards achieving their goals, and Vijay Shankar opined that Singh will forever remain in the hearts of Indians.

With the passing away of Milkha Singh, an unprecedented and glorious chapter in the history of Indian sport has come to a close.
