Cricket fans and pundits from across the world are lavishing praise on Team India for their monumental victory in the just-concluded Test series against Australia. And Google CEO Sundar Pichai also joined the bandwagon of the fans, experts and others to congratulate Ajinkya Rahane & Co. for their triumph Down Under.
Luck had pretty much deserted the team since the start of the Test series. The series started on a humiliating note for the tourists as they were all out for 36 in Adelaide and lost the Test by eight runs. Their talismanic skipper Virat Kohli then returned home on paternity leave. India were later plagued by a spate of injuries as several big names were sidelined.
The likes of Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, KL Rahul, Hanuma Vihari, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah missed at least one Test because of the injuries they sustained during the series. But despite all the setbacks, India, on Tuesday, thrashed the hosts by three wickets in the fourth Test to clinch the series by 2-1.
What makes the victory even more special is that it came at the Gabba, the venue where Australia had not lost since 1988. Not many would have predicted a win for India after Australia set them an improbable target of 328. No team in the past had managed to chase down more than 236 runs at the venue.
But the young Indian team defied all the odds and scored the required 324 runs on the fifth-day pitch to register a historic win. Rishabh Pant starred with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 89 while Shubman Gill (91) and Cheteshwar Pujara (56) scored fifties too.
Sundar Pichai congratulates Team India
Soon after India’s triumph at the Gabba, Sundar Pichai, who is an ardent cricket fan, took to Twitter to congratulate the team. Pichai called the win as ‘one of the greatest test series wins’. He also lauded Australia for being so competitive during the series, tweeting:
“One of the greatest test series wins ever. Congrats India and well played Australia, what a series”
