MS Dhoni and his retirement has been the burning topic for the better part of the last 10 months now. Many had tipped him to make a comeback to the national team with a brilliant show in the Indian Premier League (IPL). But the much-awaited T20 competition had to be suspended until further notice and the debate about the veteran’s immediate future came up once again.

While many former Indian cricketers reckon that MS Dhoni has played his last game for the country, a few feel there is still some cricket left in him. The man who matters has been mum all this time keeping the suspense and doesn’t seem to be giving any hint on it either. However, former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen feels only Dhoni should decide when he should retire and no other person should give him any suggestion.

He pointed out the wicketkeeper-batsman’s contribution for Indian cricket and is of the opinion that he deserves to retire on his own terms. “I think after what MS Dhoni has done for Indian cricket, he decides when he wants to hang up his boots, no one else,” Pietersen said while speaking to Times Now.

Kevin Pietersen had picked MS Dhoni as the best captain recently

Only recently, Kevin Pietersen had picked MS Dhoni as the greatest captain ever the game has witnessed. He highlighted the success the 38-year-old has achieved during his illustrious career and felt that it is extremely tough to lead India where cricket is followed religiously. He was also impressed with the way Dhoni handled the pressure and the expectations while leading his country and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL.

“It will be very difficult just with the weight of expectation to go against MS Dhoni because of what everybody expects from him, how he has to live his life and what he has been through captaining India and then captaining the CSK,” Pietersen had said.

MS Dhoni is still the only captain to win all three ICC trophies, 50-over World Cup, 20-over World Cup and the Champions Trophy, in his captaincy. He has also led the CSK to the glory thrice in the IPL besides winning the Champions League twice.
