Ottis Gibson has no doubt about South Africa winning the World Cup 2019
South Africans have never won a World Cup
The brand new coach of the South African team, Ottis Gibson, feels there is no reason why the present bunch of guys cannot win the World Cup 2019 to be held in England where they lost all series in the three formats of the game recently. Gibson was roped in by CSA post 4th Test of England series.
He was formerly the England Assistant bowling coach. The West Indian gave his final interview as the coach of the English team on Tuesday before taking over as the Head Coach of the Proteans. The ongoing series against the Maroon Caps will be last assignment for Gibson. He then takes over as the Coach of the Men in green and their first assignment would be against Tigers on September 28.
South Africans have never won a World Cup
“I’ve learnt a lot over my years as head coach of the West Indies and in my two stints at England, I was chosen as the person to come in and take the team forward and I’m absolutely looking forward to that and getting over there,” claimed Ottis Gibson according to sports24.
“That was a massive part of how Cricket South Africa pitched the job. Every team wants to win a global tournament. South Africa has never won one and that’s obviously one of their big things,” added the West Indian who was part of the team when they won the T20 World Cup of 2012.
“You look at South Africa and the players they can potentially put on the field, and there is no reason why they can’t win the World Cup in 2019. That would be something great for me as a coach and also them as a country. There is a very strong sporting culture in South Africa so to do something like that would be amazing,” concluded the 48-year-old.
