Our batsmen failed to accelerate in the last 5 overs against Delhi Capitals: MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni is also happy with the effort put in by his boys as they gave the Delhi Capitals a good fight.
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) side could only muster a total of 136/5 in their match against the Delhi Capitals (DC) on 5th October 2021, and the opposition chased down the target with 3 wickets to spare. And now, the captain of the CSK side, MS Dhoni has opened up on his team’s loss against the Rishabh Pant-led side.
Dhoni said that the ‘Men in Yellow’ were looking to post a total of around 150 runs on the board. The 40-year-old also added that the platform was set for the Chennai side to post a good total, but the CSK batsmen failed to accelerate.
“We were looking to get closer to 150. After we lost a few wickets, around the 15-16th over mark the platform was nice. We failed to accelerate,” said Dhoni after the match.
We made a very good effort to make a game out of it: MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni also said that the pitch was a tough one to bat on, and any total around 150 would have been a good one. Adding that the pitch was a two-paced one, Dhoni reckoned that batsmen could not go ahead and play their shots on this kind of surface.
“I thought it was a tough pitch. Anything close to 150 would’ve been a good score. It’s a two-paced wicket. It’s not like it slowed down drastically. Can’t just play your shots. That’s what the Delhi batters also faced,” said Dhoni.
The CSK skipper is also happy with the effort put in by his boys as they gave the Delhi Capitals a good fight. Adding that one expensive over in the powerplay proved costly, Dhoni concluded by stating that when the CSK bowlers are bowling to good players, they will go for runs.
“The taller bowlers were getting movement. It was a very good effort to make a game out of it. Was important not to give too many in the first six. Was one expensive over in the first six, but when quality players are batting it can happen,” concluded MS Dhoni.
