'Paise ke liye Turban nahi pehnte hum' - When Punjab Kings' Harpreet Brar slammed Akshay Kumar
The incident has come into focus after Harpreet Brar became an overnight sensation with his performance against Bangalore in IPL 2021.
Punjab Kings all-rounder Harpreet Brar was the chief destructor against Royal Challengers Bangalore in an IPL match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday night. Judging by his presence online it can be said that he takes a lot of pride in wearing the turban. The all-rounder was in superb form with the bat and ball in his first appearance in IPL 2021.
The incident which has come to light after the performance happened a week ago. The 25-year-old was seen going after a troll who compared him with a famous Bollywood actor. The young cricketer belongs to the region of Moga in Punjab. An Instagram user noted that the Brar was looking like Akshay Kumar, from his movie ‘Singh is Bliing.’
In the movie, which was released in 2015, Akshay Kumar played the role of a Sikh guy, who wears a turban. The movie became quite popular among Punjabis back in the day and still remains a quite well-known movie. However, Brar was not pleased by the user comparing him with Kumar.
The user wrote, “Paaji aap singh is bling ke Akshay Kumar dikhte ho”, which means ‘Brother, you look like Akshay Kumar in the movie Singh is Bliing.’
To this the young cricketer responded, saying that he doesn’t wear the turban for money. He wrote, “Paise k liye Turban nhi pehnte hum #isupportfarmers,” he responded on his Twitter account with the screenshot of the question on his Instagram DM. This comment comes amidst the farmers’ protest in India.
Harpreet Brar contributed with the bat and the ball against RCB
Brar became a star overnight. He scored 25* runs from 17 balls when Punjab was batting, helping them to reach a substantial score. He supported his captain, KL Rahul in that partnership which took Punjab out of trouble as they managed to get to a score of 179. After this, he turned magic with the ball.
During the run chase, at the halfway stage, RCB had lost only one wicket and scored around 60 runs. Brar first dismissed Virat Kohli and then Glenn Maxwell with his very next ball. He later picked up AB de Villiers, to dismantle RCB’s run-chase, ending with 3 for 19 in four overs.
