Pakistan’s Test specialist Fawad Alam finally got an opportunity to bat on Day 3 of the ongoing second match against Australia at the National Stadium in Karachi. However, the southpaw failed to make the most of it and walked back to the pavilion without troubling the scorers. He had to wait for seven days in the Test series to make an impact on the 22 yards.

Fawad did not get a chance to bat in the first Test at Rawalpindi that ended in a stalemate in what was a run-fest. In this contest, he spent two days on the field after the coin landed in the favor of the visitors and Pat Cummins decided to bat first. Australia declared their innings after posting a mammoth 556/9 riding on Usman Khawaja’s 160.

Fawad Alam’s stay at the crease comes to an early end

Fawad Alam walked out to bat with his unique batting stance and took strike against Australia’s pace spearhead Mitchell Starc who looked in great form. On the penultimate delivery of the 26th over, the left-arm quick bowled a thunderous inswinger that rapped the batter on the pads even before he could manage to bring his bat in the way. There was a huge appeal from the Aussies and the on-field umpire raised his finger instantly.

Alam decided to get the decision reviewed but to no avail as replays showed that the ball would have gone on to hit the stumps. Thus, the senior cricketer took a long walk back to the pavilion for a golden duck.

Pakistan in their first innings suffered an awful batting collapse being reduced to 97/7 as no batter even managed to register a half-century. They were eventually bundled out for 148 runs in their first innings. Skipper Babar Azam showed some resistance scoring 36 runs from 79 balls before being caught by Usman Khawaja off Mitchell Swepson. Australia didn’t enforce the follow-on and ended the day on 81/1 stretching their lead to 489 runs.
