Pakistan Cricket Board condemns terrorist attack in Christchurch
Players, officials, cricket boards and fans across the globe have joined hands to show solidarity with New Zealand during the tough times.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday condemned the terrorist attack that took place in New Zealand’s Christchurch on Friday. Calling it as of New Zealand’s darkest days, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern confirmed 49 people were killed during the attacks. Two mosques were targeted during the mass shooting, with the deadliest attack taking place at the Al Noor mosque in the city centre.
The Bangladesh cricket team miraculously escaped after being caught up in the horrific massacre. Players and members of the team’s coaching staff were just moments away from reaching the Masjid Al Noor Mosque in Hagley Park when the shooting started. However, after listening to the gunshots, the team members left the bus and rushed to safety. Miraculously, no one was injured before New Zealand and Bangladesh agreed to call off the third Test that was scheduled to start on Saturday (March 16).
Following the incident, PCB was quick to express its grief and shock over the incident. Peshawar and Islamabad franchise teams also wore black armbands during their match in the Pakistan Super League. PCB Chief Ehsan Mani condemned the attack on the innocent as he paid condolences to those who lost their lives.
“On behalf of the Pakistan cricket fraternity, I would like to condemn in the strongest possible way the cowardly, uncivilized and inhuman terrorist attacks on the innocent worshippers in Christchurch mosques,” Mani said.
“Our hearts go out to all those affected by this tragedy who will feel and understand their pain and loss better than us. In these difficult times, we also stand firmly with our colleagues in New Zealand Cricket and offer our deepest condolences,” Mani added.
