Pakistan PM Imran Khan has a piece of advice for Sarfaraz Ahmed to make a comeback
Sarfaraz was sacked as captain and was removed from the team after Pakistan were whitewashed 0-3 in a T20I series at home against Sri Lanka.
After Pakistan’s dismal performance against the T20I series against Sri Lanka, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had sacked Sarfaraz Ahmed as the skipper from T20I and Tests. Azhar Ali was named as Pakistan’s skipper in Tests and Babar Azam was assigned the role of T20I captain. The wicketkeeper-batsman was sacked as captain and was removed from the team after Pakistan were whitewashed 0-3 in a T20I series at home by a relatively weak Sri Lankan team.
To add to his woes, Sarfaraz has also been dropped from the upcoming Australia series. It has been not made clear whether Sarfaraz will continue as the ODI captain or not as Pakistan’s next 50-over assignment isn’t until July next year. Pakistan also had a woeful run in the World Cup as the Sarfaraz Ahmed-led side were knocked out in the group stage after they finished fifth on the points table at equal points (11) with New Zealand.
After an unimpressive batting performance and inability to provide results, the 32-year-old was sidelined from the national side. Meanwhile, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has given a piece of advice for Sarfaraz. Khan has advised the sacked skipper to focus on domestic cricket to bounce back into the national side. Khan was optimistic about Sarfaraz’s return to international cricket.
“I don’t think the performance and form of a player should be judged by T20 cricket but through Test and One-day cricket. He can come back to the national team, he should focus on domestic cricket,” Khan said when asked about Sarfaraz as quoted by India Today.
Misbah is an honest personality: Imran Khan
Furthermore, Imran Khan has also backed the appointment of Misbah-ul-Haq as the head coach and chief selector. He acknowledged the move as a constructive one and regarded Misbah as a good choice for the role.
“It is a constructive move to appoint Misbah as he is an honest and unbiased personality who has loads of experience behind him. I think Misbah will turn out to be a good choice and Pakistan will improve and do well in Test and ODI cricket under him. He has this talent in him that he can groom the players and also improve their performance,” said Khan.
