Pakistan has been on a roll since their 2-2 series draw in England in August, which briefly lifted them to number one position in world cricket’s Test rankings for the first time before arch-rivals India toppled from the top. While it is said that India will reign supreme for a while now with a lengthy home season scheduled, Misbah-ul-Haq & Co. also have an opportunity to close the gap in the three-match series against the West Indies where they start as strong favourites.

Pakistan captain Misbah said he was relishing the prospect of a day-night Test, where the play will be from 3:30 pm to 10:30 pm (1130 GMT to 1830 GMT) with two breaks of 30 minutes. During a recent press conference, opener Azhar Ali, who lead Pakistan in the ODI format, spoke about how his team has prepared for the Day-night Test. He feels that the players need to adapt to the demands of the game.

“Yes, it is different. It is the first game for us with the pink ball. Players have experience playing the day-night format in domestic cricket but internationally it’s a different challenge. But we are all excited about it and I think it will be very exciting for the crowd as well to come and watch this game. Different timings also suit the crowd.”

“I think the upcoming game is important. But, we had enough time in the middle to prepare. We have had five-six sessions with the pink ball. I think the players also played in the first class final and other games. They do have a little experience of that as well. We have practised hard and have enough idea to play the pink ball format.”

21-year-old Babar Azam earned his maiden test call-up after smashing a hat-trick of centuries against West India in the limited over series. The left-hander looked completely invincible. The vice-captain also wished him luck ahead of his much-awaited Test debut.

“He is coming into the series with a century to his name. He is in great form. We just pray that it just continues for him and it is very exciting to watch a young player like Babar Azam. He is very stylish and comfortable when batting. So we are wishing him all the best.”
