Pakistan vs New Zealand: Imam-ul-Haq hit by a scary bouncer from Lockie Ferguson
Imam, when batting on 16, was forced to leave the field after a bouncer bowled by Lockie Ferguson struck him on the grille of his helmet.
Pakistan recorded their first ever win in 12 ODIs against New Zealand in the 2nd One-day international between the two sides. Hosts won the match comprehensively by six wickets but the highlight of the match was how Imam-ul-Haq sustained a blow to his head by a bouncer from the Kiwi pacer Lockie Ferguson.
Imam, when batting on 16, was forced to leave the field after a bouncer bowled by Lockie Ferguson struck him on the grille of his helmet, making him dizzy before he succumbed to the ground. His eyes were closed, however, he did not lose consciousness. The team management originally informed that the 22-year old will undergo CT scans and would be monitored closely for the next 48 hours.
Later, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed that the scans had shown that the opening batsman had suffered no major damage. The PCB also tweeted that Imam-ul-Haq’s scans have come all clear and has joined the team to remain under the observation of the team’s physiotherapist.

Sarfaraz pleased with Pakistan’s comeback
Shaheen Shah Afridi led Pakistan’s bowling performance with his career-best bowling figures while Fakhar Zaman hit run-a-ball 88 to set up the series decider on Sunday at Dubai. With Ross Taylor’s 86 and his partnership of 75 with Henry Nicholls, the Black Caps scratched their way to a total of 209, however, a composed batting performance from Pakistan ensured that they didn’t make a mess of this paltry chase.
Sarfraz Ahmed, in the post-match presentation ceremony, said, “It was a complete team performance. We hoped to make a comeback strongly and we did. We wanted to use the new ball effectively. I think we batted very well today. Fakhar played all around the surface. We tackled the bouncer very well too. Our bowlers contained it really well after being wayward with the new ball. Our spinners controlled it nicely and the wickets from the pacers in the middle overs helped. Look forward to the decider in Dubai.”
