Pakistani batsman Umar Akmal promises a strong comeback
Umar had failed to clear the fitness tests conducted just before the commencement of the ICC Champions Trophy, which led to him being sidelined
It never gets easy for a player to fight against his fitness issues and get back to his normal playing ways. Such traumatic situations often destroy careers as well and it becomes even more imperative for such injury prone players to concentrate on their fitness. Umar Akmal, who entered the International stage with a bang, has been out of the side in recent times for the same reasons but he has promised the Pakistani fans that he will come back stronger.
From the last six months, the 27-year-old has remained an outcast in the Pakistani side. Unfortunately for him, he had failed to clear the fitness tests conducted just before the commencement of the ICC Champions Trophy, which led to him being sidelined. Pakistan triumphed in the final of the tournament with a resounding victory against India.
“It really hurt to miss out on the Champions Trophy”
The younger of the Akmal brothers had admitted that it was disappointing to have missed out of the coveted tournament. “It really hurt to miss out on the Champions Trophy, especially considering the importance of the tournament,” he said as quoted by Express Tribune.
“I have a lot of regret for not being part of a team that created history by bringing the prestigious trophy back to Pakistan, but at the same time, I am very happy for the boys. I admit that I had fitness issues and am trying to fix those in order to make a comeback,” he added.
He stated that he is solely focusing on a come back right now and wishes to make the entire country proud with his performances. He also admitted that not having a central contract was disheartening, adding he only had himself to blame.
“I don’t have any other thing on my mind but to return to the national side. I want to return and make my parents and my country proud of me. Cricket is everything for me. It feels bad to be out of the team and without a central contract but I have nobody to blame but myself,” he said.
