Pakistani fans troll BCCI after Guwahati ground staff use hair dryer to dry the pitch

The first T20I match between India and Sri Lanka was abandoned without a ball being bowled thanks to wet patches on the pitch and around the bowler’s runup. Guwahati the venue of the first T20I had experienced rain the whole day of the match and it even rained after the toss happened between the two sides. Ultimately, after three inspections by the umpires and the officials, the match was called off.

The Barsapara ground staff did their best to dry the patches but thanks to being ill-equipped were seen using hair-dryers, steam irons, vacuum cleaners and other utility things which led to an embarrassing situation for the Indian cricket board as the videos of the same circulated on social media, which were then used to criticize the richest cricket board in the world. Even the commentators on the air termed it absolutely disheartening to see that an international stadium didn’t have the means to deal with such an issue.

Pakistani fans have a field day

This episode gave the archrivals of Indian cricket fans, the Pakistanis a chance to make fun of the Board of control for Cricket in India (BCCI), widely regarded as the richest cricket board in the world, for not having any world-class equipment to dry the wet patches on the pitch, which ultimately led to the abandonment of the T20I match in Guwahati, Assam. The fans were made to wait for more than five hours and inspection was done thrice before coming to the final resolution.

Meanwhile, the Pakistani cricket lovers took to Twitter and slammed the Indian board for their low-cost equipment used for drying the pitch while sharing a photo of PCB using an army helicopter to dry a pitch. They called for PCB to gift BCCI one of the helicopters to dry the ground, while Sri Lankan fans asked the Sri Lanka team to take the Premadasa Stadium covers with them next time to avoid such situations.

The next T20I will be played in Indore on Tuesday at the Holkar Stadium in Madhya Pradesh, which if played unhindered will be the first game for both teams in 2020.
