Papua New Guinea announce squad for T20 World Cup 2021
Papua New Guinea will be competing in their maiden ICC global tournament.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 is all set to commence from October 17 in UAE and Oman with the final scheduled in Dubai on November 14. The tournament will kick start with the Round 1, Group B encounter between co-hosts Oman and Papua New Guinea on October 17. Papua New Guinea (PNG) will be competing in their maiden ICC global tournament.
Ahead of the tournament, PNG has announced its squad for the World Cup and will fancy their chances in Group B of the first round, where they will lock horns with Oman, Scotland, and full member Bangladesh. Scotland is the only team that had defeated PNG in the group stage of the qualifier. The team will require a good start against the co-host Oman to progress to the Super 12 stage.
The performances of bowling all-rounder Norman Vanua and opener Tony Ura would be a key aspect for the PNG team. The leg-spinning all-rounder Charles Amini too has the responsibility on his shoulder to dictate the campaign for the side.

The captain of PNG, Assad Vala had earlier termed that he will be leading a well-disciplined and well-drilled team into the ICC T20 World Cup. He also stated that the side relies on playing their respective roles and executing their skills to the best of their abilities. He opened up that he understands the significance of playing in the mega event for the first time and that it is a dream come true moment.
“There are no superstars in our 11 or 15. We are a well-drilled team, well-disciplined. We just rely on playing our roles and executing our skills to the best of our abilities. To be able to finally qualify for one and participate in one of the World Cups is a dream come true for me, and speaking on behalf of all my teammates, it will be an honor for us. It’s the pinnacle of cricket, being able to play against the best in the world.” Vala had said as reported by India Tv.
