Paul Adams up for top coaching role with Knights
He is currently associated with the Newlands based franchise.
Paul Adams, the owner of perhaps the weirdest bowling actions in cricket history, is possibly up for a high-profile cricket coaching job as the head coach of the Knights in Bloemfontein. He was previously associated with Cape Cobras as their head coach until the end of 2016 and is currently involved with the Newlands-based franchise, but with Ashwell Prince being the head coach.
Paul Adams played 45 Tests and 24 ODIs for the South African team picking 134 and 29 wickets respectively. He made his Test debut against England in Port Elizabeth in 1995 and played his international game against New Zealand in the Hamilton Test in 2004. He featured for South Africa in the Wills World Cup 1996 held in Asia and the ICC World Cup in 1999 held in England.
Adams up for a huge coaching role
The Knights have shortlisted the 42-year-old for the coaching job of the franchise, after Adams showed interest in joining the coaching staff, as per reports from Netwerk24. However, when he stepped down from his role as head coach of the Cape Cobras, many players were highly critical of his coaching style and had reportedly complained about the same.
Other shortlisted contenders for the Knights head coach jobs are former Lions coach Geoff Toyana and current women’s national coach Hilton Moreeng. Knights are on the lookout for a new member at the helm ever since the abrupt departure of Nicky Boje. Currently, they are under the combined leadership of Alan Kruger and former skipper Werner Coetsee, who will remain in charge until the end of the 2018/19 domestic season.
Paul Adams has had a relatively successful career in South Africa, playing for three teams- Western Province, Western Province Boland and he finished his playing stint in 2008 with Cape Cobras. In total, he took 412 wickets in 141 FC matches and 84 wickets in 76 List A matches. Adams’ best bowling performance in Tests was 7/128 in an innings and 10/108 in a match.
