India whitewashed Sri Lanka in the three-match T20 series when they won the final T20 at the Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium. Indian bowlers were once again instrumental as they didn’t allow the Sri Lankan bowlers to post a big total. Earlier, India had rested their main bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Yuvendra Chahal from the last game of the series. In this game, Washington Sundar made his T20 international debut.
Jaydev Unadkat made headlines throughout the series with his brilliant performances in the first two games of the series. He started brilliantly in the third game as well when he picked the wicket of Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batsman Niroshan Dickwella in his first over itself. In his second over, after being hit for four by Upul Tharanga, he sent back the experienced Lankan player back to dressing room.
Sri Lankan batting had no answers to the Indian bowlers as they kept chipping away with wickets at regular intervals throughout the game. Sri Lanka could only manage 135 runs in their 20 overs, 18 of which came in the last over of the game when Akila Dhananjaya and Dasun Shanaka targeted Mohammed Siraj’s over.
India’s run chase was derailed early when both the openers went back to the pavilion without much to their names. Iyer and Pandey provided the needed stability with a 42-run stand. Quick wickets made the match interesting for the huge crowd at the Wankhede Stadium.
It was Dhoni and Karthik’s 31-run stand that steered India in the run chase and eventually helped them cross the line without further damage. MS Dhoni hit the winning runs one more time.
Jaydev Unadkat was named man of the match as well as man of the series for his brilliant performance with the ball. In the third game, his picked two wickets by giving away just 15 runs in his 4 overs.
The Error
Tournament sponsor Paytm though failed to find out the correct Twitter hand of the 26-year-old pacer when they tagged the handle of opener KL Rahul and called him man of the series with the photo of Jaydev Unadkat. Although they realized the mistake quickly and deleted the tweet.
