PCB and BCCI to clash over hosting Emerging nations cup in Pakistan
Pakistan Cricket Board(PCB) wants to host the tournament and according to the reports they would be making their stand clear in the meeting.
The BCCI has made its stance clear that it can’t play a bilateral series with Pakistan without permission of the government. Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is set to meet in Kuala Lumpur to discuss hosting the Asian Emerging Nations cup. Pakistan Cricket Board(PCB) wants to host the tournament and according to the reports they would be making their stand clear in the meeting.
Pakistan set to boycott Asia Cup
According to Sportskeeda, a senior PCB official said that if India refuses to send a team to Pakistan for the tournament, then PCB will also boycott Asia Cup in India. Such a move from an Asian powerhouse can force ACC to shift Asia Cup away from India.
The official further added that they will request ACC to give hosting rights to the Asia Cup to a third country like Malaysia or Sri Lanka. PCB chairman Najam Sethi is the president of ACC, and he will chair the meeting to be held on Monday and Tuesday.
The Scenario
The ACC is set to finalize dates of Asia Cup, U19 Asia Cup and Asian Emerging Nations cup in the meeting. The PCB is set to implement a tit for tat policy where they would try to force India to give up hosting rights of Asia Cup if Emerging Nations Cup is shifted due to India’s pressure.
ACC meeting held in October awarded the hosting rights of the tournament to Pakistan. India and Bangladesh did not send their delegates to the meeting held in Lahore. Later both these nations are refusing to send their teams to Pakistan due to the security concerns.
PCB argues that they have successfully hosted PSL in Pakistan which proves that they can ensure the security of the visiting teams. PCB chairman Najam Sethi has also said that he will try to convince India to convince India to play bilateral series with Pakistan in the ICC meeting scheduled to be held in Kolkata on 22nd April.
