Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shahryar Khan has dismissed reports regarding his alleged resignation from his current position. These reports come following Pakistan’s horrific showing in the recently concluded World T20. The conclusion of the tournament saw the PCB chief summon both coach Waqar Younis and skipper Shahid Afridi. The summoning was to ascertain the reasons behind the debacle in one of the ICC’s perhaps top tournament.

Further reports suggested that the 82-year old Shahryar Khan was also disappointed and frustrated with the fact that the reports from Waqar Younis and team manager Inthikab Alam had been leaked. The two reports suggested sweeping changes in terms of Pakistani cricket as well as the appointment of a better domestic system. However, both reports were very critical of Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi. The 36-year old has been at the receiving end of massive criticisms following Pakistan’s horrific showings in the tournament despite tendering a video apology through his Facebook page.

“There is no truth in the rumours that I am considering stepping down,” he added. Shahryar Khan also added that he had, in fact, received the report from the fact-finding committee along with a few suggestions on what  needs to be done in the future keeping the best interests of Pakistani cricket in mind. The fact-finding committee is a team of three members including current Test skipper Misbah-ul-Haq as well as senior batsman Younis Khan. Shahryar Khan has also previously served in the capacity of chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board in the past from 2003 to 2006.

Although the 82-year old hasn’t yet commented on the report received from the fact-finding committee, a few rumors suggest that Waqar Younis could well be sacked. Waqar’s contract will run out in a couple of months. Pakistan‘s former Test opener, Mohsin Khan, who has served as the chief coach and chief selector of the national team, is being tipped to get a top post on the board soon.
