The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has suspended the cricketer Ahmed Shehzad for four months after he was tested positive for consuming the banned substance. A surprise dope test was conducted by the board a few months ago and Shehzad was found positive after which he was provisionally suspended. However, his suspension is backdated which commenced on July 10 and a four-month will be calculated accordingly.
Shehzad is always in the news for wrong reasons and this time is no different. The PCB had earlier not revealed the name of the cricketer as they were awaiting the chemical report from the anti-doping agency of the government and there were also the reports of the delay in reports arriving from India. Though once it was confirmed, they cleared the name and the verdict on the same was long overdue.
Shehzad will deliver lectures on anti-doping
The prominent Pakistani journalist Zainab Abbas revealed the news of Ahmed Shehzad’s suspension on his official Twitter handle. The cricketer has accepted his mistake, however, he has also cleared that his intentions were not to cheat anyone and under the Article 8.6 of the PCB rules, Shehzad has been punished for the offence committed.
Though, with the backdated suspension, his banned period will end on November 10 which is only more than a month away from now. He won’t be allowed to play in any of the domestic tournament. Also, the 26-year-old will deliver lectures on anti-doping to such audiences whenever PCB will feel the need of the same.
Meanwhile, Shehzad’s career is in doldrums and hasn’t played for his country at the highest level in June in a T20 International against Scotland. It is almost a year now since he last represented Pakistan in the ODI format and with the World Cup approaching, the top-order batsman will be looking to hit the straps soon to press his case forward.
