Even as India’s women cricketers were busy impressing hearts in the ongoing T20 World Cup in Australia, something phenomenal happened in a match between Chandigarh and Arunachal Pradesh in Women’s Under-19 One Day Trophy. The skipper of the Chandigarh side, Kashvee Gautam, claimed all 10 wickets in the game played at the KSRM College Ground in Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh.

Before her exploits with the ball, Kashvee also scored 49 off 68 balls as Chandigarh ended up with a total of 186 for 4 in 50 overs. When they returned to defend the score, Kashvee produced her magical spell to take all 10 wickets of the opposition in just 29 balls, six of which were dots including a hat-trick. Arunachal Pradesh were bundled out for a paltry 25 as Chandigarh won the match by 161 runs. Her spell read – 4.5-1-12-10.

This is not the first time that Kashvee has impressed the supporters. In the first match against Bihar, she conceded just six runs in 10 overs and took a wicket and in the very next encounter against Jammu and Kashmir, she claimed seven wickets. And with the 10-wicket haul in the third game, Kashvee has a tally of 18 wickets so far. Chandigarh will next play Pondicherry on February 28.

As far as the record book is concerned, Nepal left-arm pacer Mahaboob Alam became the first cricketer to claim 10 wickets in an innings in a limited-over game. He picked 10 for 12 runs against Mozambique in the 2008 ICC World Cricket League Division Five in Jersey.

Anil Kumble took 10 for 74 against Pakistan in Test match

In Tests, India’s Anil Kumble became the second bowler in the history of the game after England’s Jim Laker to take 10 wickets for 74 runs in an innings of a Test match. Kumble, India’s top and the world’s third-highest wicket-taker in Tests, achieved the feat against arch-rivals Pakistan in Delhi in 1999.

In 2001, former India seamer Debashish Mohanty took a 10-wicket haul for East Zone against South Zone in a Duleep Trophy match. Manipur pacer Rex Singh also achieved the feat of taking 10 wickets in an innings when he took 10 for 11 in a Cooch Behar Trophy game in 2018.
