Peter Nevill has been ousted from the Australian team for the current Test series against India and was also not selected for the T20s against Sri Lanka. His qualities as a keeper are never doubted but his batting was below par for a substantial phase.

This resulted in his sacking from the Australian squad. However, he has been busy playing the Sheffield Shield and winning matches for New South Wales. He recently indulged in a stumping off a fast bowler. Yes, this Australian wicketkeeper stumped a batsman off a fast bowler. And no, he was not standing up at the stumps.

Nevill was on fire during a Shield match between New South Wales and South Australia. Tom Cooper was batting and he looked comfortable while doing so. Right-arm fast bowler Trent Copeland was bowling his heart out as he was coming in hard every single ball.

This particular delivery was no different, a short of a length ball and Cooper was not interested in playing it as he left the delivery alone. Nevill collected the ball and saw that Cooper was well outside his crease as he threw at the stumps immediately. Cooper, on the other hand, took a second to realize that had to rush his bat. While doing so the South Australian lost his grip and the bat slipped out of his hands.

Before he could recover, the stumps were disturbed and the finger had already gone up. Nevill’s heroics were well received by his teammates as he got one of the last batsmen standing and broke into the tail end of the batting order.

South Australia were already struggling as they had given away a 205-run lead in the first innings. They were 256 for 6 when this happened. They eventually just added 40 odd runs more and lost the game by eight wickets.

Peter Nevill didn’t do much with the bat but was outstanding with the gloves. Watch the video here:
