Picking World Cup squad was Inzamam-ul-Haq's last job as chief selector: Reports
Inzamam-Ul-Haq was named the chief selector of the national team in April of 2016 when PCB was being led by Shaharyar Khan.
The Pakistan team is currently embroiled in the ODI series against England after which they will finalize their 15-member World Cup squad and participate in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 in England and Wales. However, this might be the last team that has been chosen by chief selector Inzamam Ul Haq.
Inzamam, one of Pakistan’s cricket greats, was named the chief selector of the national team in April of 2016 when PCB was being led by Shaharyar Khan. It was under Shaharyar Khan tenure that the Men in Green won the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 in England, beating arch-rivals Indian team in the finals.
However ever since Ehsan Mani has taken over the PCB as director, in the last nine months, the Pakistani team failed badly in Asia Cup 2018, losing ODI series against South Africa and getting whitewashed at the hands of Australia.
PCB top brass told Inzamam that his tenure as a chief selector has come to an end
Pakistan news agency The Dawn has reported via its sources, that the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) higher management recently in a meeting told Inzamam-Ul-Haq that his time as a chief selector has come to an end. They have given him an option to stay board’s employee but in a different capacity.
Inzamam is yet to reply to the offer. The Pakistan Cricket Board has undergone a major overhaul after Imran Khan became the Prime Minister of the nation and decided to look at the cricketing scene with a microscope and appointed Ehsan Mani as PCB chief. Mani, made huge changes, bringing in people more trusted by him.
However, the cricket board and Inzamam led selection committee came under fire, when Pakistan lost to Australia 5-0 in the ODI series, as the selectors decided to rest six of the key players before the series against England and the World Cup. Inzamam and his committee were originally contracted to work until April 30, but PCB extended the time till July 31.
PCB looking forward to a very good display by the Sarfaraz’s men in the upcoming quadrennial event. If Men in Green can’t stand up to the billing that the board might oust Inzamam from his chief selector position and also it will be the last outing with Pak’s men for coach Mickey Arthur’s.
