The members of the India Women cricket team recently presented the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, a signed bat. The bat had the signatures of all the members of the national side who recently toured England for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017. Team India had a phenomenal run in the tournament. Albeit the dream run had a very heart breaking end, the players managed to win over the hearts of cricket fans all around the world.
The India Women had started off their campaign with a high when they beat the English Women in their tournament opener. They then went on to beat the Windies Women, the New Zealand Women, and the strong Proteas camp as well. They lost only one game during the league stages, and that was against the Australia Women.
However, the revenge was very well served by the women in blue. Riding on Harmanpreet Kaur’s brilliance, team India thumped Australia in the semi-finals of the tournament. In the final game, they were up against the English women yet again. India Women dominated the proceedings for the major part of the game.
Chasing a modest 228 runs for the championship, team India were placed at 191/3 at one stage. But they ended up choking towards the end to bundle out for 219 and thereby lost the final by 9 runs. However, there was a bigger win that was on the cards. They managed to win the hearts of a billion.
