Playing World Cup is a dream, but current focus is on winning the IPL: Kedar Jadhav
"As of now, my focus in the next two months will be on CSK," he quoted.
Veteran Indian cricketer Kedar Jadhav has made a big name for himself in the Indian side in a very short span of time. Jadhav is an integral part of the Indian World Cup plans, and may pretty well be the X-factor for the Men in Blue in England this year. Apart from his handy contributions with the bat, Jadhav has become the go-to fifth bowler in the Indian side. He has responded really well by becoming a wicket-taking bowler.
Currently, the Pune lad is with the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. Last season, he had to bow out of IPL due to a hamstring injury. This season, he is hoping to do well for the yellow outfit. Kedar Jadhav exclaimed that he might not have to bowl for CSK as much as he does for team India. Commenting on the fitness levels, he revealed that the players have been given notes to follow from the trainers of the national side, and of their franchises as well.
“My workload, I think, is about managing my bowling. In Chennai Super Kings, I don’t think I need to bowl as much as I do in the Indian team. We all are professional cricketers and we know how to manage our bodies. How you recover after every IPL game really matters during this two-month period. You can’t just improve in one training session,” Kedar Jadhav was quoted as saying in India Today.
“We have got some notes (from the Indian trainers and physios) and we have to follow them,” he added.
On playing the World Cup and managing the workload
Soon after the IPL, the players will head to England and Wales for the World Cup. Fitness levels would be tested for sure. But Jadhav is unfazed about this at the moment. He noted that playing the World Cup is obviously a dream for him. But he is not getting into a shell to preserve himself by not indulging in the IPL action.
He remarked that he missed the action big time last season when CSK lifted the trophy. He wishes to do it for his side this year. His immediate focus is on winning the IPL. And once that is accomplished, he would look forward to the next mission – the World Cup.
“Basically every cricketer who plays for India it’s a dream for him to feature in a World Cup team, and I’m no different to that. As of now, my focus in the next two months will be on CSK. I hope to win it this year and I’m looking forward to all those two months with a fit body and contribute to the best of my abilities,” Jadhav commented.
“I love the environment and the culture here. Last year also I was here for only a week or 10 days but I watched all the games when I was in Melbourne for surgery. But I missed so many people and the whole journey when we lifted the Cup last year,” he added further.
