Possibilities are all open, quips Virat Kohli on Rahane's position in Centurion Test

Team India skipper Virat Kohli has kept all his cards intact when asked about the possible team combinations for the Centurion Test. Kohli is known to spring up surprises with his selections for the matches and the Indian skipper seems to be living up to the expectation yet again. As the Centurion Test is about to start, there are discussions about the possible combinations that the Indian team can go forward with.

The discussions have come to the fore following the poor show by the Indian batsmen in the Cape Town Test. A dismal outing in both innings by the team prompted the pundits to call for the inclusion of Ajinkya Rahane in the playing eleven. It was not so long ago when the same pundits wanted Rahane out of action after he could score only 17 runs in 5 innings against Sri Lanka.

Virat Kohli, as per the quotes in DNA, found this very fact to be funny. He cited that the people wanted him out of the team and now they are backing him in the starting eleven. However, Kohli maintained that the call on Rahane is yet to be taken.

“It’s funny how things change in a matter of weeks, or just about five days. Before the first Test no-one thought that he should be in the eleven and now suddenly people are looking at the other option. For us as a team, it’s all about finding the right balance. If players fit in in the kind of balance we want to go in with as a side, then they will fit in. We certainly don’t go on opinions that are created outside, and talk of the town and all those sort of things,” quoted Virat Kohli.

Playing XI to be decided on Match Day

Speaking further on the same note, Virat Kohli pointed out that Rahane is indeed the best Indian batsmen in the overseas conditions. However, the ultimate decision on who will play and who will miss out will be decided on the day of the match, quipped Kohli.

“He (Rahane) is a quality player. He has done well in South Africa, in all conditions actually away from home. He is probably been our most consistent and solid player away from home. I explained the reasons why Rohit Sharma started ahead of him. I am not saying that Ajinkya cannot or will not start in this game. Possibilities are all open at the moment and we shall decide after practice,” Kohli remarked.
