Former Zimbabwe skipper Alistair Campbell believes 18-year old debutant Prithvi Shaw is more advanced than his current age. Shaw, who made his debut against the Windies during the first Test in Rajkot last week, smashed a sparkling hundred, becoming the youngest Indian to score a century on debut. Opening the batting for India, the youngster scored at a brisk rate and got to the three figure mark faster than a-run-a-ball.

Prithvi Shaw was dismissed for a 134, but the who’s who of the cricketing fraternity showered praises on the teenager. Sachin Tendulkar himself tweeted to Shaw following his promising knock on debut. India scored a mammoth 649 in the first innings thanks to centuries from Shaw, skipper Virat Kohli, and Rajkot’s very own Ravindra Jadeja.

The Windies, however, looked hapless in front of the Indian spinners, and were bundled out for sub-200 scores in both innings. India thus registered a massive victory by an innings and 272 runs – their biggest win (by an innings) in Test history.

The former Zimbabwean captain believes teen sensation Prithvi Shaw is destined for great things, saying, “What he did on his Test debut was unbelievable. I like his technique and the way he plays so late. He is mentally more advanced than his years. When you have a Sachin Tendulkar as mentor, you have good chances of succeeding.”

Virat Kohli the best batsman in the world: Alistair Campbell

When asked to name the batsman Campbell loved to watch, he did not hesitate at all to say it was India’s captain Virat Kohli. “Whatever format you put him in, he delivers. He is the best batsman in the world at the moment,” he was quoted as saying to The Hindu.

Kohli has been in fine form with the bat ever since India toured South Africa in January this year. He notched up centuries against England as well, finishing the series with tons of runs under his belt. Kohli also went home with India’s Man of the Series award for his dominance with the bat. Against the Windies, he brought up his 24th Test century, thus becoming the fastest Indian to achieve this feat.
