Prithvi Shaw named in Mumbai squad for Vijay Hazare Trophy
The squad will be led by wicketkeeper-batsman Aditya Tare.
India U19 skipper Prithvi Shaw has been included in the 16-member squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy, an inter-state One Day International tournament to be played in Chennai from 5 February. Shaw has done a brilliant job guiding the young colts to the finals of the ongoing junior World Cup. The unbeaten Indian team will face the Aussies in the summit clash set to take place on February 3.
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Tuesday announced the squad, which will be led by wicketkeeper-batsman Aditya Tare. Apart from Shaw, the squad also boasts the likes of Jay Bista, Siddesh Lad, Surya Kumar Yadav and Akhil Herwadkar have also been named. The bowling attack will be led by Dhawal Kulkarni, who has been named as the vice-captain. Medium pacer Akash Parkar, who had a decent last Ranji Trophy season, is also in the squad.
Mumbai would be keen to make a mark
Shaw has so far accumulated 232 runs at 77.33, inclusive of two half-centuries in the U19 World Cup in New Zealand. He made his First-Class debut in 2017 for Mumbai and since then has struck 5 centuries and 3 fifties at 56.52. The inclusion will give the youngster a more exposure to first-class cricket as he aims to earn his place in the Indian squad.
After failing to win the Ranji Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Tournament (Zonal T20 league), the Mumbai players would be keen to make a mark in the Vijay Hazare trophy. Mumbai takes on Madhya Pradesh in their opening game on 5 February, Gujarat on 6 February, Tamil Nadu on 8 February, Rajasthan on 9 February, Goa on 12 February and Andhra on 14 February in Group C.
