The last year or so was very tough for young opener Prithvi Shaw. The Indian batsman faced severe criticism for his failure to do well with the bat. He had a poor campaign in IPL 2020 and managed to score just 228 runs in 13 games at a poor average of 17.53. Shaw then failed to do well in Australia too and was dropped after failing twice in the first Test.
After failing to impress in the warm-up game, Shaw managed to score just 0 and 4 in the Adelaide Test before facing the axe. Later, he was also dropped from the Test team for the ongoing series against England at home. But the talented and highly-rated batsman has managed to give a fitting reply to his critics with a stunning display in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Shaw roared back to form on Thursday with a stunning knock against Puducherry. He scored his maiden List A double-century and went on to score 227 off just 152 deliveries. Leading Mumbai for the first time, the right-handed batsman made the day even more special with his special knock. He reached his double-ton off just 142 deliveries.
Shaw, who hit 27 boundaries and four sixes during his knock, now holds the record of the highest individual score in the history of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Earlier in the competition, he had also scored an unbeaten century against Delhi. With form on his side, Shaw would be looking to make the most of it so that he can earn a recall from the Indian team as soon as possible.
Prithvi Shaw takes a subtle dig at home
After proving himself on the field, Prithvi Shaw has hit back at his critics and trolls. The youngster has faced severe criticism and trolling on social media platforms in recent months. The trolls hardly squander a chance to take shots at the 21-year old. Perhaps that is what prompted Shaw to hit back at them when he finally got the opportunity.
Following his stunning double-century, Shaw took to his Instagram account to share a fan-made meme. The meme took inspiration from a song by rapper Divine which read: “Edit karke image tune mera meme bana dia, mehnat karke tere bhai ne poora dream bana dia (You edited my image and made a meme out of me, I worked hard to achieve my dream).”
