Priyam Garg to lead four-time champions India at U-19 Cricket World Cup
Dhruv Chand Jurel will be the vice-captain of the India Under-19.
Priyam Garg, the right-handed batsman from Uttar Pradesh has been appointed as the captain of India Under-19 team for the upcoming ICC Under-19 World Cup that is scheduled to be played in South Africa. Meanwhile, Dhruv, Chand Jurel will be his deputy. The All-India Selection Committee has picked a strong squad going into the mega-event. They have also announced a different squad for the tour of South Africa and quadrangular series.
The youngster has emerged as one of the promising players in the country. He made his Ranji debut against Goa and scored a brilliant century. Moreover, he was picked for India Green in Duleep Trophy 2019 in which he delivered convincing performances with the bat. In 12 first-class games, he has amassed 867 runs at an average of 66.69 with two tons and five half-centuries. The 19-year-old has also scored a double ton in U-16s, U-19s and Ranji Trophy so far in his career.
India to play ODI series and Quadrangular series ahead of Under-19 World Cup 2020
The 13th edition of the mega-event will be played between 16 teams and will be split into four groups comprising four teams each. India Under-19 are placed in Group A and will be going to begin their campaign from 9th of January against Sri Lanka followed by New Zealand and Japan. The young Indian brigade will play all the matches in Bloemfontein. The Men in Blue is the most successful team of the competition, who has clinched the title on four occasions.
Ahead of the Under-19 World Cup, India will play a three-match ODI series against South Africa and they will feature in the quadrangular series between December 26 and January 9. It will consist of New Zealand, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. In this series, all the World Cup team players will play along with CTL Rakshan, who is not in the World Cup squad.
