The on-going third edition of the star-studded Pakistan Super League (PSL) is not attracting much crowd at the stadiums of the United Arab Emirates. But for those watching the games live on the television, the tournament has already produced some exciting moments, like Darren Sammy’s last over blinder against the Quetta Gladiators, in which the Zalmi captain scored 18 runs from 4 balls. However, the mix-up between Hussain Talat and Andre Russell was also the point of discussion on Friday.

There was a lot of buzz for the match between Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars, which went down to the wire and eventually a super over had to be played. This was also the first super over in the tournament’s history of 3 years.

After JP Duminy’s dismissal, the Islamabad fans hoped for a good score from the big-hitting Andre Russell and Hussain Talat, to take them to a competitive total. But in what is being seen as a very selfish act from Talat, Russell was run-out in the penultimate over by Yasir Shah and Sohail Khan, as the batsman at the other end stood his ground.

What actually happened?

On the first ball of the penultimate over, Sohail Khan bowled an outside off delivery which was punched to the backward point by Talat. An easy single was on offer, which Russell wanted. But Talat stood his ground and did not move. The Caribbean all-rounder was seen leaving the field with a frustrated reaction. It is yet to be known why Talat did not run for the single when it looked like an easy run.

Russell’s outburst was justified, as he looked in a good nick to finish the innings on a high for his team. However, in the super over, Russell took 10 off the last two balls off Mustafizur Rahman‘s to lead United to a win.
