PSL 2018: Quetta Gladiators name replacement for injured Jofra Archer
The Quetta Gladiators confirmed the news of the same in a social media update.
The 2018 edition of the Pakistan Super League has started off on a very positive note. All teams, save Lahore Qalandars, have registered wins under their belt. The Quetta Gladiators, the finalists of the previous edition, have looked very solid this year as well. Coming in to the tournament, the Gladiators boasted of a very strong overseas contingent. However, in a recent update, they have been jolted early in the tournament.
Prominent pacer Jofra Archer has reportedly bowed out of the season owing to a side strain. Archer is one of the most popular names in the world of T20 cricket in the recent times. Archer made the big news with his spirited showings in the Big Bash League (BBL) this year where he played for the Hobart Hurricanes.
Jofra Archer, the Caribbean all-rounder, is hoping to follow the footsteps of Chris Jordan and make way to the English national side. He certainly has made a good start in the T20 format. His exploits in the BBL fetched him a mega IPL deal as well this year. With such high price tag coming his way, he became an overnight popular name in the world cricket.
Also, the fans eagerly awaited to see how Archer fared up in the PSL. The fans could not get much to see though. Archer played just two matches before departing from the UAE. The Quetta Gladiators confirmed the news of the same in a social media update.
The posted a video on their official social media handle in which Archer is seen giving a goodbye message for the fans of the franchise. Meanwhile, the Quetta Gladiators have named Australian speedster Ben Laughlin as the replacement for Archer in the season. Laughlin has been in prime form in the domestic cricket this season. He had turned up for the Adelaide Strikers in the victorious campaign for the franchise in BBL 2017-18.
Here is what Quetta Gladiators tweeted:
“Speed sensation Jofra Archer waves goodbye. Sad he could only play two out of four matches due to side strain. See you soon JOF,” Quetta Gladiators wrote in their social media update.
