PSL 2018: Shahid Afridi uncertain for qualifier against Islamabad United
Karachi Kings will be pitted against Islamabad United in the Qualifier 1 in Dubai.
The third edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is currently underway and is into its business end. While Multan Sultans and Lahore Qalandars faced the wrath of elimination, Islamabad, Karachi, Peshawar, and Quetta will compete in the playoffs. Karachi hasn’t had an overly impressive tournament having won five out of their ten games.
However, they have managed to claim the second spot and will now have a couple of opportunities to qualify for the final. Nevertheless, the Imad Wasim-led team might be inflicted with a body blow ahead of their qualifier against Misbah-ul-Haq’s Islamabad United. Shahid Afridi has been suffering from a knee injury for quite a while now.
The frustration for Afridi and Kings
As per reports in Geo TV, the Khyber Agency-born all-rounder might be sidelined for today’s game at Dubai owing to the same injury. A source near to Afridi has claimed that the injury has resurfaced, much to the agony of Afridi and the Kings. “The same injury kept him out for a couple of matches earlier and he’s now facing the same problem,” the source mentioned.
The source also said that Afridi is eager to take part in the game for the Kings and take them to the final. “He’s eager to play and wants his side to win the match, his availability will be known only after MRI tests conducted later on Saturday evening,” the source added.
Afridi has been an integral member of the side, especially with the ball. He currently has 13 wickets in eight matches at an economy of below six this season. Recently, he entered the record books when he became the first cricketer in the tournament to smash four consecutive sixes against the Peshawar Zalmi. Meanwhile, the Kings would be hoping for the veteran to recover before the game.
