PSL 2021: Sarfaraz Ahmed comes up with heartwarming gesture for Mohammad Hafeez on field days after spat on Twitter
Sarfaraz Ahmed and Mohammad Hafeez were involved in an ugly war of words on Twitter.
Former Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed has been all over the news for all the wrong reasons in recent times. Things are just not falling into place for him since he was sacked as Pakistan’s captain in 2019. Sarfaraz earned a recall in 2020 for the tour of England but played just one T20I game. Sarfaraz was a part of Pakistan’s Test and T20I squads for the recently-concluded home series against South Africa but did not get a chance to play any game.
And things only became worse for him after he was involved in a war of words with his veteran Pakistan teammate Mohammad Hafeez on Twitter. It all began when Hafeez took an indirect dig at Sarfaraz by calling Mohammad Rizwan the number one wicketkeeper-batsman of Pakistan. Unimpressed with the tweet, Sarfaraz had hit back at Hafeez and had urged him to show a positive attitude.

Hafeez, however, decided to take another dig at Sarfaraz by cheekily tweeting: “Shallow minded approach EXPOSED!”. In the wake of the verbal duel on Twitter, Sarfaraz had faced criticism from the fans as Pakistan cricket witnessed yet another instance of infighting.
Sarfaraz Ahmed’s heartwarming gesture
At a time when Sarfaraz Ahmed was facing the heat from the fans for his behaviour, he has won the hearts once again with a heartwarming gesture for none other than Mohammad Hafeez. The wicketkeeper-batsman came up with his gesture during the game between Quetta Gladiators and Lahore Qalandars in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) on Monday.
The incident took place when the players were walking off the field after the game ended. Just before Quetta’s squad members and coaching staff walked out to shake hands, Sarfaraz was seen asking Hafeez to lead the men on the field. Hafeez initially hesitated but eventually decided to accept Sarfaraz’s proposal.
Here is a clip of the incident:
Hafeez really deserved to lead the players off the field after his match-winning knock for the Qalandars. The veteran batsman scored an unbeaten fifty to help his side crush the Gladiators by nine wickets. Chasing 179, the Qalandars crossed the finishing line in 18.2 overs by losing just one wicket. Hafeez scored an unbeaten 73 off just 33 balls while opener Fakhar Zaman scored an unbeaten 82 off 52 balls.
