Queensland duo Sam Heazlett and Blake Edwards added to the Prime Minister’s XI squad
Hazlett finished the JLT One-Day Cup competition as the fourth-highest run-scorer.
The last series that the Proteas and the Australians played will be remembered for a long time for reasons other than cricket. The events that unfolded in South Africa shocked the cricketing fraternity. However, since then Australia have worked on a revamped side and are all set to host South Africa for three ODIs and a one-off T20 game. Before the start of the tour, South Africa will play a one-day practice match against the Prime Minister’s XI on October 31.
The duo Sam Heazlett and Blake Edwards have been added to the Prime Minister’s XI squad for the clash against South Africa. The addition was made due to the absence of Nic Maddinson and Gurinder Sandhu. While Maddinson is nursing a hamstring injury, Sandhu has been withdrawn from the squad by Tasmania. The inclusion of Heazlett and Edwards completes the 12-member squad for the 50-over contest.
Promising Young talent
Sam Hazlett has been in good form in the domestic circuit. The 23-year old finished the JLT One-Day Cup competition as the fourth-highest run-scorer with 380 runs at an average greater than 50. Blake Edwards is a rookie fast bowler for Queensland who featured for Australia’s U19 side last year. The side will be led by Ashes winners George Bailey and Chris Rogers. The side boasts of some promising talent with the likes of Jack Edwards, Max Bryant, Jason Sangha, and Josh Philippe.
The PM XI have a big task in their hands as they will face a full-strength South African side. Led by Faf du Plessis and the pace department headed by Kagiso Rabada and Dale Steyn, the Proteas will be looking to get the feel of things before the start of the tour. The tour game will be played at the Manuka Oval in Canberra while the first ODI will be played on November 4th in Perth.
