Watch: Rafael Nadal smashing the cricket ball, Rare video: Many would associate Rafael Nadal with tennis as someone who is probably one of the greatest ever to wield a tennis racket in hand. But here we have a rare footage of the tennis star Rafael Nadal trying out his luck with a cricket bat here in India.

The video would be valued as some sort of a priced possession by Rafa fans in Asia who follow cricket. Its from 2008 Aircel Chennai Open when the then World number 2, Nadal came to participate in the tournament. He was the eventual tournament runner up.

It was recorded after he registered a semi final win against Carlos Moya of Spain. The Spanish legend has come to Chennai multiple times and as is the tradition here in Chennai Open, after every win the winning player is given a cricket bat in hand and he is to whack the tennis balls towards the fans.

Rafael Nadal is not a cricket fan, but surprisingly posted a tribute message on Social media condoling the tragic death of Phil Hughes in the later half of 2014 “Shocked about the news of Oz’s cricketer Phil Hughes. My thoughts with the family and the cricket fans.” Nadal had written.
