Rahul Dravid has always been open to give advice: Devdutt Padikkal
"Rahul sir has spoken to me a couple of times."
India, captained by Pavan Shah, U19 recently won the 2018 edition of the Asia Cup in Bangladesh and left-handed batsman Devdutt Padikkal played an integral role with the willow in hand in their victorious campaign. The 18-year-old notched 183 runs in four matches at an average of 45.75 and batted brilliantly at the top of the order, facing the brand new leather.
His top score of 121 from 115 balls with the help of 15 boundaries and a couple of sixes came against United Arab Emirates (UAE) in a Group A encounter in Savar. Recently, the Kerala-born cricketer heaped praises on former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid. He also mentioned that Dravid and he went to the same school and the retired batsman knew him prior to meeting him.
It was nice to know that Rahul sir knew about me
“Rahul (Dravid) sir has spoken to me a couple of times. I went to the same school as his. When he came to our school for a function, I spoke to him. He told me, ‘I have seen you in newspapers. You have been doing well, continue in the same way’.
It was nice to know that Rahul sir knew about me. He has always been open to give advice. Even during the U-19 Quadrangular series, he came and gave tips for the team,” Padikkal was quoted as saying to MyNation.
Rahul Dravid was appointed as the coach of India U19 and India ‘A’ teams back in 2015 and he hasn’t disappointed thus far by any means. Last year, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that Dravid would continue as the coach for the next years.
Earlier this year, he coached the India U19 team to glory in the World Cup in India. The Prithvi Shaw-captained went on to win all their matches and eventually defeated Australia in the final to lift the championship.
