Rajasthan Royals conduct hilarious poll after Tim Paine's banter against Rohit Sharma fails
Paine is on the receiving end for the words he said to Rohit.
The first Test of the ongoing series in India and Australia did not quite live up to the expectations as far as the history of this famous rivalry is concerned. While the contest between bat and ball was as riveting as one could have hoped for, it was the banter and sledging that was pretty much missing from the game. But the chatter returned in the second Test in Perth as captains of the two team took the onus on themselves.
And the chatter, banter and sledging has continued in the ongoing third Test too. Australia skipper Tim Paine has been the centre of attraction so far with his top-notch banter from behind the stumps. One of the most interesting conversations was definitely the one he used for Rohit Sharma. With Rohit relatively new to the crease in the first innings and under pressure to perform in Tests, Paine tried to get under his skin.
Trying to tease Rohit, Paine told the Mumbai Indians’ captain that he would join the team if Sharma hits a six. “It’s been a toss up for me between Royals and Indians, and if Rohit hits a six here, I am changing to Mumbai,” said Paine.
But as cool as ever, Rohit focussed on his batting and went on to score an unbeaten 63. And as soon as he played the knock, the cricketing fraternity took a shot at Paine for his failed attempt. IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals also followed the suit and conducted a hilarious online poll. They asked the fans to choose the team Paine is supporting after seeing Rohit’s 63. To make the matter even more hilarious, they included Rohit Sharma’s option in the poll too.
In the end, Mumbai Indians came out as winners with 37 percent votes while Royals and Rohit received 32 and 21 percents of the votes respectively.
Rohit’s reply
Rohit, meanwhile, came up with a funny reply for Paine’s banter. He said that while he was not at all distracted by the Aussie captain’s antics, he did come up with an interesting idea.
“I was hearing that but when I’m batting I just focus on the job at hand. But I had a chat with Ajinkya Rahane and I joked that if he (Paine) gets a hundred here, I will put in a word about him to my boss at Mumbai Indians and we’ll buy him. Looks like he’s a fan of Mumbai,” Rohit said.
