Rajshahi Kings won't burden Mushfiqur Rahim with captaincy
I think I can learn a lot from Sammy: Rahim
Bangladesh Test captain Mushfiqur Rahim, who recently came back from Bangladesh’s horrid tour of South Africa, shall not be burdened with the captaincy of the Rajshahi Kings in the upcoming edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
Rahim’s captaincy has been under the scanner after misreading the pitches in South Africa and electing to bowl first. During the two Test matches, South African top-order filled in their boots with massive scores and pushed the visitors out of the game.
After the first match, Mushfiqur was accused of playing blame games instead of taking responsibility for the humiliating loss. Even though Bangladesh had a forgettable tour, Mushfiqur did well to score a century in the opening game of the ODI series.
However, Rajshahi owners claimed that they would choose not burden their new member of the team with the pressure of captaincy. Their captain Darren Sammy did a tremendous job last season by taking them to the finals where they lost to Dhaka Dynamites. Their Managing Director went on the record to entrust their faith on the West Indian as far as captaincy is concerned.
“You have all witnessed he had a difficult series in South Africa so we opted to allow him to play with more freedom as he is expected to be more relaxed with Sammy as our skipper. We are sure he will give his inputs from behind the wickets.” confirmed the Managing Director of Rajshahi Kings, Muhammad Sayeed.
Rahim on playing under Sammy
“Whether I am captain or not, I will try to play my role from the behind. I always try to perform my job 100 percent well,” he said. My team will very much benefit if I can perform my current jobs – wicket-keeping, batting and vice-captaining. I am ready to face the challenge. I think I can learn a lot from Sammy,” stated Mushfiqur Rahim according to Cricbuzz.
