Ramesh Powar tweets yet again after Mithali’s ‘darkest day’ post, gets roasted
Mithali was dropped from the Indian side for the semi-final clash against England.
The tit-for-tat is showing no signs of dying down. After senior player of the Indian women’s cricket team Mithali Raj tweeted saying the “aspersions” cast on her made it the “darkest day of her life” for she was “deeply saddened” by the treatment that was meted to her even after putting in service for 20 years, head coach of the side Ramesh Powar came up his response in yet another tweet. This time, the Twitterati took him on.
It all started after 35-year-old batter Mithali, who has scored almost 10,000 runs for India across all formats, wrote a letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) alleging that she was humiliated by Powar during the team’s participation in the Women’s World T20 in the Windies recently. She was dropped from the side for the semi-final clash against England, a decision which backfired as the Indian batters struggled on a challenging wicket to lose the match by 8 wickets. Hell broke loose soon after.
First it was Mithali’s manager who lambasted captain Harmanpreet Kaur over the decision to leave out the seasoned batswoman in an important tie and then the cricketer herself wrote to the board bringing to the fore her sour experience in the team. She said she was humiliated by the coach and also did not spare one of the Supreme Court-appointed cricket administrators Diana Edulji, accusing her of bias.
Mithali difficult to handle
Powar then defended himself saying the veteran cricketer was “aloof and difficult to handle”, reports cited a BCCI source as saying. He also said that Mithali was dropped since her performance was not up to the mark in the practice games.
Mithali then posted her “darkest day of my life tweet” and when Powar said in his tweet: “Forgive others not because they deserve forgiveness, but because you deserve peace,” he faced flak from the social media users. They backed Mithali, even alleging that she was deliberately denied a chance to be a part of a World Cup-winning team.
