Rangpur Riders and Comilla Victorians, the most expensive teams of BPL
The fifth edition of BPL will be played from November 2.
Rangpur Riders and Comilla Victorians are the most expensive teams of the fifth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League. The domestic T20 league of Bangladesh is set to commence on November 2 which will clash with the T20 Global League of South Africa that gets underway on November 3. The adage that franchise based tournaments bring a lot of money has become true in case of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) as well.
The squads for the upcoming edition of BPL have been finalised as the players draft was held in Dhaka on Saturday. Mustafizur Rahman was the biggest attraction of the event as he was snapped up by Rajshahi Kings for USD 60,000. Misbah-ul-Haq, the former Pakistan captain was picked up by Chittagong Vikings which was the talking point of the draft process.
Huge amount to be spent in the league
The franchises are all set to spend a staggering amount of TK 173,700,000 in the fifth edition of the BPL this year. They will spend this amount on their local and foreign players recruitment for the blockbuster tournament in the country. The total of TK 146,500,000 will spend for local players, while TK 27,200,000 for overseas’ players.
According to the accounts provided by the BPL governing council, Rangpur Riders and Comilla Victorians are the highest paid teams, who will spend the highest amount of TK 26,200,000 each to pay the local and overseas players they sign up. Khulna Titans and Dhaka Dynamites follow them as they are set to spend TK 25,400,000, TK 25,200,000. Rajshahi Kings will also spend the same amount as Dhaka Dynamites franchise.
New-entrant Sylhet Sixers are also disbursing TK 23,500,000 to balance their team with the right combination of players for the BPL season 5. Chittagong Vikings will expend TK 22,000,000, the lowest amount among the BPL franchises and would look to do better in the upcoming edition.
