Ranji Trophy 2018-19, Round 8, Day 4 - Round Up

After Mumbai bowed down to Vidarbha on Day 3 of their Ranji Trophy 2018-19 round eight fixture, Maharashtra followed suit and conceded a bonus point win to Gujarat. Despite scoring the fifth-highest total in Ranji history, Meghalaya could only secure three points as their game ended in a stalemate.

Puneet Bisht’s sensational triple century, which came at over a run-a-ball, helped Meghalaya muster 826 runs at 4.8 runs an over. Despite those heroics, Sikkim managed to bat out the final day and escaped some humiliation. Milind Kumar remained unbeaten on 127 for Sikkim and saved his side on Wednesday.

Karnataka had to battle it out hard on Day 4, but they eventually got the result they wanted. After Manish Pandey’s quickfire century helped them post a 355-run target, Chhattisgarh tried hard but could only bat 57 overs. Ronit More and Shreyas Gopal picked up four wickets each to help Karnataka register a 198-run win.

Bengal pull off an improbable run chase

Abhimanyu Easwaran’s 183 off 211 deliveries led Bengal in pulling off one of the most stunning run chases in Ranji Trophy history. With 304 runs to get on the final day, Easwaran and Anustup Majumdar stitched 186 runs for the fourth wicket and helped their side chase the 323-run target in just 70.2 overs.

Heading into the final day, Maharashtra were pretty much on the backfoot and they eventually succumbed quite horrendously to Gujarat. After declaring their first innings at 545/8, Piyush Chawla and Chintan Gaja rode through the Maharashtrian batting order to help their side earn a bonus point win.
