Ranji Trophy 2018-19: Yuvraj Singh set to take part in next three matches

Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh hasn’t had the best of times in his cricketing career of late. He last played competitive cricket, representing Punjab in the previous edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He scored 264 runs in seven innings but was ignored for a place in the Deodhar Trophy event that took place thereafter. He played under the leadership of Mandeep Singh.

The 50-overs exclusions also made it fairly clear the cricketer isn’t a part of the plans for the upcoming World Cup. Punjab are currently playing the ongoing edition of the Ranji Trophy. Unfortunately, the experienced cricketer didn’t take part in the first two matches against Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, which gets underway on May 30. Punjab are currently placed eighth in the Elite Group B.

Yuvraj back in the business

In the meantime, it has been learned that the 36-year-old is set to play the next three matches in the first-class circuit against Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu respectively as per reports in Sportstar Live. In the first two matches, it seemed as if Punjab missed the services of the veteran and they would be desperate to have Yuvraj in the scheme of things.

The encounter against Delhi will start on November 28 at Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi. His cricketing career is into the doldrums and the same can also be seen from the fact that he was released by Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) ahead of next year’s Indian Premier League, which is likely to get underway on March 29.

Last season, he was in and out of the team as he couldn’t deliver with both bat and leather. Yuvraj also scored at a dismal strike-rate of below 100. Yuvraj was picked at his base price of INR 2 crore by Ravichandran Ashwin’s team. He is now set to go under the hammer in the auction on December 18 in Jaipur.
