Ranji Trophy 2019-20: Round 1, Day 3 – Round-Up

Prithvi Shaw announced his comeback to the longest format with a scintillating double century in Mumbai’s group stage encounter against Baroda. The third day of the Ranji Trophy’s first round this edition saw a lot of games getting a result, with some having a great scope of finishing early on Day 4.

Delhi’s dismal performance in the first round continued as they got bowled out for a paltry 142 runs in reply to Kerala’s 525. Jalaj Saxena spun a web across their batsmen and picked up 6 wickets, conceding 63 runs. The follow-on was imposed on Delhi and they finished Day 3 at 110/0, trailing by 241 runs. Anuj Rawat took the attack to the bowlers and remained unbeaten on a brilliant 74.

Ganesh Satish continued his brilliance from day 2 and completed a double century in Vidarbha’s game against Andhra. The defending champions scored 441 runs in reply to Andhra’s 211, thus gaining a tremendous first-innings advantage. Andhra finished day 3 at 100/2 and are looking to save themselves from sinking.

Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar demolish Baroda

Quite simply the story of the day, Prithvi Shaw spanked a 179-ball 202, which included 19 fours and 7 sixes. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav too chipped in with a 70-ball 102, which helped Mumbai score 409 runs in just 66.2 overs in their second innings. They posted a 534-run target for Baroda and Krunal Pandya’s side finished at 74/3, staring at an inevitable defeat heading into the final day.

Jammu and Kashmir registered a huge win against Uttarakhand, courtesy a brilliant bowling performance in both innings from Ram Dayal. Uttarakhand needed 453 runs to win the game heading into the final day and got bowled out for just 149 runs. Ram Dayal picked up 5 wickets in the second innings, in addition to the four he picked up in the first innings. He was named man of the match for his amazing spell.

Maharashtra stumbled quite horribly on the third day, which means they now need a momentous effort or some blessings from the rain gods to squeeze a point out. In reply to Haryana’s 401, they first got bowled out for 247 runs with Harshal Patel picking up 4 wickets. Maharashtra were made to bat again by Haryana and lost 5 wickets in the 15 overs which remained on Day 3.
