IPL: Ranking 10 worst releases in the league history

With the world’s biggest T20 League also being based on the concept of auction and trading, often when there’s someone’s gain there’s also someone’s loss. Now at least this cycle in the last 14 years of the IPL has become well evident in the case of many renowned IPL teams especially with the ones who have constantly got brimmed with star elite players.

Now although a majority of the time, the IPL teams do dump their elite players only when they utterly start to malfunction, there have been some famous instances where surprisingly the dumped malfunctioned players have then suddenly started to soar high for their new franchises. Perhaps recently in the IPL 2021, such was also the scene with the PBKS team, especially when after dumping Glenn Maxwell, the Aussie then suddenly went all guns blazing while playing for the RCB. 10. Yuzvendra Chahal (MI)

Before becoming the premier spinner of the RCB team, Yuzi Chahal had initially begun his IPL journey with the MI franchise. The leg-spinner was first bagged at a base price of INR 10 Lakh in the 2011 IPL by the MI management and was part of the setup till the end of the year 2013. While his first two seasons with MI were merely the bench-warming events, Chahal then by only playing his single IPL game in the blue and gold jersey, had finally made his IPL debut in the 2013 season.

However later in the 2013 Champions League T20, Chahal did get some games to exhibit himself. And with the cricketer also bowling a commendable spell against the RCB in the finals, the leg-spinner apparently was then bagged by the red army in the 2014 auction. Since then it’s been seven seasons wherein Yuzi Chahal has become the team’s chief leg-spinner along with scalping a total of 125 wickets from 105 appearances for RCB.

MI franchise because of the brimming presence of the veteran Harbhajan Singh had eluded Chahal in the 2014 auction but then after the departure of the legend, the team has struggled to procure some quality leg-spinners. Maybe the MI management just like RCB could have fetched Chahal again at his base price, but with the franchise also winning a record number of IPL titles in the same time frame, barely there must be a regret in the hindsight.
